In order to offer a smarter, faster, and greener nbn® network, Nokia and NBN Co. today announced the implementation of Nokia’s next-generation broadband platform and its Altiplano Access Controller.
The Lightspan MF-14 is being deployed for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere.
The MF-14 is a ground-breaking fibre access system that is built on cutting-edge hardware and split software. It is the only option available that can deliver enormous volumes of 25G, 50G, and 100G PON services.
The MF-14, which offers unrivalled capacity, space efficiency, low latency, intelligence, dependability, and power efficiency, can assist the Australian National Broadband Networks in achieving its objective of Zero Carbon Ambition.
Full fibre connections from NBN Co. will increase data rates and reliability while also providing higher broadband speeds.
The improvements will also make it possible for qualifying clients to establish online businesses from home, continue their education online, take part in telehealth consultations, and stream media more efficiently.
Rapid technical advancements will be crucial in fostering our country’s economic growth and facilitating our transition to a more intelligent, digitally empowered economy, according to Stephen Rue, CEO of NBN Co.
Rue added, “By directing the implementation of this next-generation technology, we can assist in meeting our country’s data demands now and into the future.
Together with our network investment, which is growing fixed wireless and satellite coverage and capabilities, we are enabling households, businesses, and communities across Australia to reap social and economic advantages.
According to him, “more than 8.5 million homes and businesses are connected to services over the nbn network, equating to around 20 million people depending on our network every day.”
With an open API to automate and programme the network, Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller is a software-defined (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) tool used to push further automation and virtualization.
The Australian Government’s promise to spend $2.4 billion to extend fibre to other towns across the nation was recently hailed by NBN Co.
With the increased funding, 1.5 million properties and companies that are now Fibre to the Node (FTTN)-served can upgrade to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).
