According to Australia’s national cyber security coordinator, Air Marshal Darren Goldie, “a number” of Australian federal entities had sensitive personal and government information “released” as a result of the cyber attack on law firm HWL Ebsworth in May. Goldie stated that his top priority upon assuming the coordinator role was to address the repercussions of the breach. The affected entities are now in the process of notifying individuals about the impact of the data breach on their information. The Home Affairs’ legal services working group is actively engaging with HWL Ebsworth to address the incident’s implications for government entities, while the government is assisting the law firm in resolving issues for its wider client base. It is worth noting that the Tasmanian government and several banks, including ANZ and NAB, are among the firm’s clients affected by the attack. The ALPVH/BlackCat group has claimed responsibility for the cyber attack.
