Tesla Reports Massive $1.1bn Quarterly Profit Amid Record Car Deliveries

Tesla reported a drastic increase in quarterly profit despite a shortage of semiconductor chips and l that disrupted production all over the world.

Sales increased to more than $ 12bn (£ 8.6bn) in the three months to the end of June. The past year it was just $ 6bn when its US factory closed.

200,000 Cars Delivered

The EV company said it delivered a record of 200,000 cars to customers at the same time.

Tesla also added that public support for green vehicles is greater than ever.

The company, led by billionaire businessman Elon Musk, reported on Monday that profits had shot up significantly after strong sales numbers.

Second Quarter Profitability

Profits for the second quarter of the year was reported at $ 1.1bn, up from $ 104m last year, strengthened by the sale of its cheap Model 3 sedan and Model Y.

Commenting about the results to investors on Monday, Tesla said: “Public sentiment and support for electric vehicles seems to be at a never-before-seen inflection point.”

“We continue to work hard to reduce costs and increase the level of our production to make electric vehicles accessible to as many people as possible in the world.”

Global Semi-Conductor Chip Shortage

Tesla added that the rapid production of cars throughout the year will depend on the availability of key components of its vehicles, the demand for which is touching “record standards” currently.

Called by financial analysts on Monday, Mr Musk said: “At the moment, I think everyone can agree, electric cars are the only way forward.”

Mr Musk said while calling the global chip shortfall “is still very critical” and production will depend on this “slow segment of procurement”.
