Temperatures Across Australia Dropping Below Average

As the winter season fast approaches, Australia is bracing for an icy chill as temperatures across the country are dropping well below average.

Meteorologists have predicted that more cold days are on the way, and Aussies are being urged to rug up and prepare for the first few weeks of winter.

The cold snap has already hit the southern parts of the country, and is expected to move further north over the coming weeks.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported, due to a trough carrying strong winds and cooler temperatures through the southern states in the past few days, a second bout of cold air is forecasted to come from the south of the country in the upcoming days.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature in Melbourne was only 13C, much lower than the usual average, with a maximum of 15C anticipated on Monday.

According to Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Dean Narramore, snow is predicted to occur at 600m in Tasmania, 800m in Victoria, and down to 900m in New South Wales.

“On Monday and Tuesday, Queensland could experience widespread inland frosts as a result of the cold air that is predicted to arrive from Tasmania, Victoria, and NSW, where temperatures have been four to eight degrees below average. Northern Victoria and much of NSW are likely to have frosty conditions as well,” Mr Narramore said.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a strong wind warning for parts of the NSW coast as a cold front is predicted to develop into a low pressure system from Sunday night.
