Peninsula Health provides health services to 300,000 people in Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. This number grows to 400,000 in summer, when tourists visit the area. The health service has a large ICT budget of over $32 million for the 2022-2023 financial year.
It has hired Telstra to replace its IT systems across 13 hospital and healthcare sites. The project will use Cisco SD-WAN technology to improve the network connectivity between the sites. Telstra will also boost the internet access speeds for the service.
Telstra said the new technology will be “smarter, safer, and more resilient”.
“Our solution will link four hospitals in the region through a modern IT network,” said John Ieraci, Telstra Enterprise’s group owner for defense and public sector. He said the online-only system will allow Peninsula Health staff and patients to access the internet services they need securely.
The solution will also reduce the risk of network failures caused by events like power outages or local disruptions. The network bandwidth will increase by four times, and each site will be able to operate independently if the headquarters goes offline.
