Telstra demonstrates edge computing in Barcelona

Telstra, Ericsson, and Microsoft announced client trials of a 5G-enabled edge computing solution at the Mobile World Congress 2022 in Barcelona.

The 5G software defined WAN (SD-WAN) solution enables private connectivity via 5G to network edge storage, network, and marketplace services.

Telstra stated that it is collaborating with the construction firm FKG Group to “co-develop the enterprise application solutions to be supplied, as well as evaluating the robustness and scaling in order to support varied business footprints.”

Telstra’s edge solution includes fixed and 5G connections, with computing and SD-WAN provided by Microsoft’s Azure Stack Edge and service orchestration provided by Ericsson’s Cradlepoint platform.

“Our worldwide collaboration now extends to our corporate clients, and we are putting a particular emphasis on the use of these sophisticated technologies to solve customer and industry operating concerns,” said Nikos Katinakis, Telstra’s group executive for network and IT.

Telstra Purple will provide the end-to-end solution as a managed service.

“Through our cooperation with Telstra, the FKG Group is able to employ applications such as AI, robotics, and augmented reality to get data-driven insights and transparency throughout our operations.” “Grant Statton, FKG Group’s head of innovation and growth, stated.

“The edge solution enables our teams to interact and make decisions in real time across many work sites, allowing us to complete projects on schedule and under budget.”

Telstra also demonstrated 5.9 Gbps downloads via a mmWave mobile connection at MWC 2022, utilising Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X65 5G modem and FastConnect 6900 subsystem, as well as an Ericsson radio system and connectivity software.
