Sydney Finally Plans To Lift Lockdown From October

The Australian biggest city Sydney is likely to reduce closure restrictions prompted by the delta outbreak starting from next month, as long as a vaccine target is reached.

The New South Wales (NSW) capital has been closed since July due to a Delta variant outbreak.

Roadmap To Freedom

The country’s government has released the much-anticipated “roadmap to freedom” on Thursday.

It brings new freedom to the people once 70% of adults in a region have received both the doses of vaccine.

NSW recorded more than 1,400 cases on Thursday, another daily record. Its outbreak has caused 153 deaths so far.

But Premier Gladys Berejiklian emphasized that people should get used to the virus in the community once the majority of the population has been vaccinated.

School Reopening Confirmed

She declined to set a date for the opening but said this would happen on the first Monday after reaching the target of 70%.

About 43% of adults in his province have been fully vaccinated and 75% have received the first dose, which means the target is likely to be comepleted next month.

At that time, shops and restaurants will be able to reopen through customer limits. Ms Berejiklian mentioned schools reopening day – 25 October.

She said only fully vaccinated people would be able to access other rights:

– Five visitors allowed in a home
■ 20-person outdoor gatherings
■ Carpooling
■ Travel around the state

What Will Be Allowed In October?

Depending on the restrictions, the following places will be reopened:

– Restaurants, cafes and bars
■ Retail stores
■ Gyms, indoor recreation centres and sporting facilities
■ Hairdressers, nail salons
■ Cinemas, galleries, theatres, museums
■ Churches and places of worship – no singing allowed
■ Stadiums, racecourses, theme parks

There will be a limit of 500 people at outdoor events, and a limit of 50 people at weddings and funerals.

It is not yet clear how people will prove their vaccination status, but there has been a discussion on a vaccination passport or application.

COVID-Free States

NSW’s proposal follows a national plan to reopen all of Australia at 70% and 80% vaccination levels.

Currently, more than half of Australia’s 25 million citizens are under stay-at-hoke orders – there are outbreaks in Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory as well.

But Covid-free states such as Queensland and Western Australia have recently scrapped “live with the virus” plan, saying the vaccination target should be high.

NSW leads other provinces at vaccination levels. Nationally, 64% of adults received at least one dose.
