Swimming Australia is utilizing advanced AI technology to assist its coaches in interpreting data and insights gathered from athletes’ training sessions. Jess Corones, the general manager of performance support and Olympic campaign at Swimming Australia, announced the organization’s plan. The are planning to integrate Amazon Web Services’ GenAI assistant, Amazon Q, into its training regimen ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Corones highlighted that the team’s coaches, who may not possess technical expertise, will benefit from the user-friendly nature of Amazon Q. This will enable them to query data using natural language.
The integration of GenAI will primarily focus on enhancing training sessions alongside the upcoming Training Insights system. This system, revealed by Corones at AWS re:Invent last year, utilizes machine learning and image recognition to track athletes in the training pool. Meanwhile offering real-time analysis even in challenging pool environments.
Swimming Australia’s adoption of Amazon Q, positioned as a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot, follows the organization’s comprehensive implementation of data and analytics solutions, including the bespoke athletic improvement system, Sparta 2, and Lane Four, an online portal for coaches to access swimmer data.
Corones emphasized Swimming Australia’s commitment to continual innovation, with a focus on preparing for the Paris Olympic Games while keeping an eye on future advancements. The organization’s aspiration is to excel both in and out of the pool, striving for ongoing improvement and leadership through innovation.
