Stephen Rue:Appointed as CEO of Optus

Stephen Rue, currently overseeing the National Broadband Network, has been appointed as the new CEO of Optus. He succeeded Kelly Bayer Rosmarin, who stepped down amid criticism following a nationwide network outage last year.

Optus Chairman Paul O’Sullivan expressed confidence in Rue, citing his role in establishing “the digital backbone of Australia.” O’Sullivan emphasized Rue’s caliber and predicted that his operational and financial expertise would elevate service standards for Optus customers.

Rue himself emphasized his commitment to prioritizing customer satisfaction and Optus’ role in serving both individuals and businesses. He expressed eagerness to accelerate Optus’ transformation.  Offering Australians a robust alternative in the telecommunications landscape while leveraging digital connectivity for economic and social advancement.

Meanwhile, the announcement coincided with Singtel, Optus’ parent company, unveiling a new governance model aimed at decentralization to empower its various businesses. Singtel CEO Yuen Kuan Moon highlighted the importance of agility in today’s economic climate and expressed confidence that the new model would facilitate Optus in solidifying its position as a key player in the Australian telecommunications sector.
