Miner South32 has hired Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to unify its IT infrastructure management and service desk activities.
According to TCS, “essential infrastructure formerly maintained by numerous providers has been unified under TCS.” In addition, the business will provide a unified service desk for all South32 activities in Australia, with fast help from on-site IT personnel.
TCS stated that it will strive to “improve South32’s IT operating model and offer vital application and infrastructure services to South32’s worldwide operations.” “The new IT operating model will help South32 achieve its strategic goal of standardising, simplifying, and optimising its IT processes,” TCS stated. The arrangement has no effect on existing IT worker employment at South32.
Sara Braund, vice president of digital technology at South32, stated that to achieve its strategic goal of simplification, “it is critical that we work with partners who have the global network aligned to South32 operations and offer the breadth of services required for an organisation like ours.”
The deal will last “several” years. There was no mention of the contract’s worth. In May 2015, South32 was split off from BHP Billiton. Its assets are mostly in Australia, South Africa, and South America and were essentially inherited by BHP following its merger with Billiton in 2001.
TCS previously worked with South32 “to facilitate expedited execution of recent divestment processes, and track staff health and safety across South32’s worldwide mining locations throughout the pandemic,” according to the service provider.
According to a video released last year, TCS also played a part in an enterprise resource planning (ERP) transition at South32.
