Sony Plans to buy Game company Bungie for $3.6Bn 

Sony Interactive Entertainment will acquire ‘’destiny’ video game developer Bungie Inc, in a deal valued at $3.6 billion. The company is also famous for its video games including Halo, myth, Oni and Marathon. Bungie will join Japanese’s based firm Sony’s PlayStation family. The US-based Company Bungie said in its post that Sony will strengthen its network of in-house gaming studios.

Bungie is working to expand its Destiny 2 universe, the first-person shooter video game which was released in 2017. Pete Parsons Chief executive and Chairman of Bungie said, “Both Bungie and SIE believe that game worlds are only the beginning of what our IP [intellectual property] will become,” Both of the companies are optimistic about the acquisition and future.  

Sony’s Acquisition of American Company

Piers Harding-Rolls, gaming analyst at Ampere Analysis expressed his views on the acquisition and said, ‘’ While this is one of Sony’s biggest-ever acquisitions. The amount paid by Microsoft puts into context the heavy competition faced in this sector.

Meanwhile, Sony believes that this acquisition will help them to reach a wider audience. Since Bungie is best known for its Halo games and Destiny. It will help them to reach ‘’ billions of players’’ around the world. Jim Ryan, president and Chief executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) said, ‘’this is an important step in our strategy to expand the reach of PlayStation to a much wider audience.’’ Additionally, he said that our company understands how important Bungie’s community is to the studio. They will remain independent and continue to grow and we will always support them.

Furthermore, he added that we will propel Bungie into becoming global multimedia entertainment company dedicated to delivering on our creative vision. It’s the latest series of acquisitions, following the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
