Snapchat has announced at its annual developer conference that it is releasing its GPT-powered AI chatbot for free to all users. As snapchat seeks to differentiate itself from Instagram and TikTok. The move includes expanding access to the chatbot, distinguishing between public and private posts. Additionally, with an aim sharing revenue generated from viral content with successful creators.
Previously available only to paying members of Snapchat++, the “My AI” chatbot can answer factual questions, create content, and engage in back-and-forth conversations with users, similar to ChatGPT. Users can also add My AI to group chats and send photos to their AI helpers.
Snap’s VP of product, Jack Brody, said, “It really deepens our ability to serve our mission of helping people express themselves. Also learning about the world, living in the moment and having fun together.” Although criticized for being inappropriate for young users when it was originally released in March, the app is now more cautious about providing age-appropriate advice. “In 99.5% of cases, its responses do conform to our community guidelines,” Brody stated.
In addition, Snapchat is offering new tools for creators to go viral while focusing on private communication. Unlike TikTok and Instagram, Snapchat’s emphasis is on private messaging, but new tools will allow creators to have a public page while simultaneously posting privately for friends and family.
