Snapchat company best known for its photo-sharing app has released a flying camera. The yellow colour little gadget is called Pixy. The company describes it as a “free-flying sidekick” which helps to take selfies without a selfie stick.
Currently, the drone camera is available in the US and France markets where the laws are more lenient around the use of drones than the other countries.
Pixy takes videos as it flies
The company introduced its drone as several social media giants are stepping up their Augmented Reality offerings. Pixy operates on its own, taking video as it flies, which is wirelessly transferred and saved in the app.
Moreover, the little gadget lands on your hand. Snapchat did not receive the same level of attention as Facebook and Twitter but it remains a popular platform.
Snapchat claims to have an audience aged 13-43 in more than 20 countries. It has 300 daily active users.
Small, light and slow
Talking to BBC, Owen Jenkins, managing director of Nationwide Drones said, ” Drone use is already mainstream across media, cinematography, surveying and inspection. It can only be expected that personal drones will become commonplace in society.”
Further added, ” if it’s small, light and slow, it’s very unlikely to cause damage or injury. I can’t see why they won’t be the next smartphone boom.”
