After previous CISO Maria Milosavljevic resigned to oversee the Department of Defence’s newest data maturity drive, Services Australia has chosen a new chief information security officer.
Janice Law, who is presently in charge of the agency’s welfare payments infrastructure transformation (WPIT) initiative, will take over as CEO in mid-March, according to iTnews.
On Friday, her employment was revealed internally to the technology and digital programmes section.
Milosavljevic discreetly departed Services Australia this month to become the Defense Department’s first chief data integration officer, succeeding acting CIDO Teresa Blair.
The position was created after the Department of Defense developed its first-ever data plan last year in order to improve the department’s data maturity and guarantee it becomes a “more data-informed organisation.”
Milosavljevic has managed Services Australia’s cyber security operations since March 2021, having joined the agency in January 2019 as chief data officer.
According to a spokeswoman for Services Australia, Law would bring “extensive cyber security and cyber management capabilities” to the post of cyber security general manager.
She spent over a decade with Defence before joining Services Australia as general manager in August 2020.
“Throughout Ms Law’s extended tenure with [Defence], she commanded sophisticated defensive cyber capabilities to facilitate Australian Defence Force missions,” added the statement.
Working on significant initiatives also provided her with “extensive policy, governance, project management, and ICT investment knowledge.”
Joint Project 2047, a billion-dollar fixed-telecommunications network replacement project, and centralised processing were among the projects.
According to the spokeswoman, Law would be in charge of the agency’s 24/7 cyber security operations centre, which “manages cyber intelligence, quick detection, and reaction.”
