Save the Children Australia appoints Brent Rutherford as new CIO

Save the Children Australia has named Brent Rutherford, the former Chief Technology Officer of Big Red Group, as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO). The organization’s Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO, Mel Parks, expressed her delight in announcing Rutherford’s appointment.

She stated that he would be responsible for leading their technology efforts. Rutherford’s role will involve shifting the organization’s technology function from an internal support role to a crucial partner in their mission for children.

Parks highlighted Rutherford’s passion for leveraging technology for positive purposes and his commitment to excellent user experiences. In addition to his leadership responsibilities, Rutherford will ensure that technology priorities and investments have the greatest impact on children. Rutherford expressed his excitement about leading technology for Save the Children Australia, emphasizing the opportunity to use technology to directly and significantly improve the world.

He replaces interim CIO Dino Moscato, who took over after Glenn Davies departed the organization in November 2022. Prior to joining Save the Children Australia, Rutherford left Big Red Group after the company partnered with Cognizant for digital transformation and development.

He initially joined Big Red Group as CTO in September the previous year, aiming to modernize the group’s infrastructure. Before his involvement with Save the Children Australia and Big Red Group, Rutherford served as CIO at InQuik for two years and held various cloud-based roles at digital professional services company Arq Group, as well as working at Macquarie Telecom, Apple, and Dell.
