One of the most admired singles players Sam Stosur makes an emotional exit at the Australian Open in Melbourne. With this tournament, her outstanding career comes to an end. Though, she had announced last month that she would play her final singles tournament.
The 37-year old player lost her last match to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the second round. However, the crowd appreciated the player after the match. Expressing her feelings she said, ‘’ I have done more than I ever thought was possible. I dreamed of winning a grand slam (single Title) and doing close to the things I did. To do what I have done, dreaming as a little kid is phenomenal.
Likewise, her opponent player Pavlyuchenkova paid tribute to Stosur and played against her several times in her career. She said, ‘’ She is such a wonderful human being and also an amazing tennis player, so thank you, Sam!

No question, Sam Stosur gave her home crowd plenty of moments to cheers, though her journey has not been very easy. Despite, her strong commitment to the game, she faced critics in tennis. She started her career at an age of 15 with a debut in 1999. She quickly became famous for her training and fitness. Moreover, her kick-serve, sliced backhands, power forehands and inside out shots were incredible. One of the major criticisms was over her lack of consistency in finishing off matches.

She is one of the only six Australian women players to win the grand slam singles title. She was the top-ranked Australian player for almost nine years. She spent 20 years of her life on tour. She participated in the Fed cup in 2019, represented Australia in five Olympic Games, and played US open tournament.
Before the tournament, Ash Barty appreciated the player and said,
“She’s an Australian champion, plain and simple. She has set the tone for us Aussies as tennis players for years and years,”
Regardless of her diseases, Stosur played for Australia with enthusiasm and courage. She deserves appreciation upon her retirement. Though she said this is not retirement for Australia, she will continue to play doubles in 2022. She revealed on social media about leaving a singles career at Melbourne Park. Her impressive career will be remembered in the history of Tennis. She is an inspiration for many players not only in Australia but also in the world.
