Reddit Launches TikTok-Style Video Feed

Reddit, the popular online discussion forum, has introduced a new feature that separates text and video content into individual feeds, called “Read” and “Watch”. This move aims to simplify the discovery experience for Reddit users, letting them choose the feed they want to see. The feeds include subscribed posts and recommendations.

Pali Bhat, chief product officer of Reddit, states that the feeds focus on providing users with better experiences and options to discover new and interesting content and communities in uncluttered spaces. In addition, Reddit plans to update its video player to enable users to engage in conversations while watching.

Reddit has been incorporating video on its platform to compete with TikTok. The company acquired Dubsmash, a short-form video platform, in 2020, to integrate its video creation tools into Reddit. In August 2021, Reddit rolled out a TikTok-style video feed on its iOS app.

Many companies, including Amazon, SoundCloud, Spotify, Instagram, and YouTube, have video feed their apps. They launched TikTok-style features to attract users.

Overall, Reddit’s new “Read” and “Watch” feeds aim to simplify the user experience. It will provide users with better options to discover new and interesting content.
