Queensland Government to Foster High-Tech Jobs with Quantum

The Queensland Government has revealed plans to collaborate with universities and industries to develop a quantum and advanced technologies strategy aimed at retaining future tech jobs and skills within the state. The strategy, set to be delivered by the end of this year, seeks to create high-value technology jobs and capitalize on the national quantum strategy, which was released in May.

The state-based strategy aims to support the commercialization of research and intellectual property in Queensland, preventing the migration of high-value jobs offshore. Quantum technologies hold significant potential across various sectors, including renewable energy, critical minerals, batteries, medicine, and defense.

The initiative also aims to advance Queensland’s research efforts in compound semiconductors, photonics, and quantum technologies. By fostering the development of production facilities for advanced technologies within the state, the government seeks to enable the commercialization of research and intellectual property locally.

University of Queensland’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry, highlighted the promise of quantum technologies in addressing national and global challenges. Queensland already serves as an important training ground for the next generation of quantum scientists, and the strategy is expected to create a talent pipeline to sustain excellence in the field for years to come.

With the state government’s commitment to nurturing quantum and advanced technologies, Queensland aims to position itself as a hub for cutting-edge innovation and high-tech job opportunities, bolstering its position in the technology landscape.
