Here we sit down with Monte to hear from him and his journey as an entrepreneur.

Q. Tell us a little more about your journey as an entrepreneur – how did you get started? What inspired you?

Monte: I was a late starter to the entrepreneurial journey. I was in my 40’s and I got started as a consultant. Then, I decided to take my own advice and start my own company.

Q. What entrepreneurial tricks have you discovered to keep you focused and productive?

Monte: My 4 rules for effectiveness are:

  1. Don’t Do List!
  2. Delegate
  3. Outsource
  4. Automate

Q. How do you stay organized with such a busy schedule?

Monte: See above, but also, I ask myself these questions:

  1. What problem do you solve?
  2. Can you exceed the competition?
  3. Who pays for it?
  4. How will you exit the business?

Q. What would do if you had a magic wand?

Monte: I would increase the teaching of critical thinking in schools, I would make lifelong learning available for everyone, and I would travel to foreign places to meet new people and read a lot.

Q. If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?

Monte: I would name it “From ‘No Where’ to ‘Now Here’” or “Learning how to live in the moment.”

Q. What motivates you?

Monte: Doing “meaningful” work. Continuous self-improvement using “self observation”. Never comparing myself to others. Never seeking recognition. Being satisfied with my best efforts.

Q. What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made?

Monte: One of the most worthwhile investments I’ve ever made was in my office building and an early-stage investment I made in an offshore BPO.

Q. What key activities would you recommend entrepreneurs to invest their time in?

Monte: I would recommend spending your time challenging friends, travelling, and reading.

Q. What is your ‘one-sentence’ piece of advice you’d like to give to someone who wants to become an entrepreneur, coach, or business owner?

Monte: Have at least one partner in your business. Doing it alone is too hard, lonely, and dangerous. I never invest in a company with a single entrepreneur.
