Pentanet and Canopus Networks are collaborating to create an agile cloud gaming network

Cloud gaming specialist ISP Pentanet, network visibility software vendor Canopus Networks, and UNSW Sydney have received a $2 million cooperative research centre (CRC) grant to develop an AI-driven network optimization solution.

Pentanet plans to leverage the grant to design and implement a solution that uses AI algorithms to dynamically optimize network performance, delivering a seamless cloud gaming experience. The project includes tailoring AI algorithms for measuring the user-side gaming experience, integrating dynamic network provisioning with the user interface, real-time adjustments to network bandwidth, and establishing validation and accounting frameworks. The collaboration between Pentanet, Canopus Networks, and UNSW aims to enhance the cloud gaming experience for subscribers on Pentanet’s CloudGG platform.

The CRC grant publication emphasizes the economic value of game studios, amounting to over $226 million, and highlights that this project will enhance Australia’s AI capabilities, accelerate global adoption of cloud gaming, and benefit the country’s game studios and creative digital economy. Pentanet holds an 11.45% ownership stake in Canopus Networks.

In another project supported by the CRC grants, UNSW Sydney, Diraq, and Perceptia Devices Australia will receive $3 million for a $6.9 million silicon-based quantum computing initiative. The project aims to overcome a critical bottleneck in the development of full-scale quantum computers. The partners will utilize Diraq’s CMOS technology to create a quantum control unit (QCU) that can be seamlessly integrated with Diraq’s quantum logic unit (QLU) at scale. This advancement will provide Diraq with a clear roadmap into the quantum computer market and enhance local expertise in cryogenic electronics.
