An international consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) leaked the biggest data including offshore havens and hidden riches of the world and billionaires.
Pandora’s papers revealed the benefits enjoyed by the wealthy people at the cost of everyone else. The trover consists of 11.9m files from around the world with 14 offshore service providers, totaling 2.94 terabytes of information.
The data includes information about world leaders, celebrities, billionaires, and those with offshore accounts to hide their assets.
A consortium of Investigative journalists revealed that the ‘’ Pandora Papers’’ includes nearly 12 million leaked files.
Financial documents revealed 35 current leaders, and almost 300 public officials involved in offshore companies.
The most renowned officials include kind of Jordon, Tony Blair and his wife, Russian president Vladimir Putin, Czech Prime minister Andrej Babis, and many more.
Australian Tax office declarations to find anyone involved in the wrong thing
Australian Taxation Office has promised to investigate any links to Australia emerging from Pandora Papers. According to Guardian, almost 400 Australian names are contained in the papers.
The data was shared by the Independent Consortium of Investigative Journalists. it was also shared with the biggest media outlets including BBC, and The Guardian.
According to the source, the data includes Australian senior figures from the finance and property industries. However, media outlets chose not to share the identity.
The ATO’s deputy commission will Day said,
‘’ there was a range of legitimate reasons that someone may have for an offshore bank account or structure.’’
‘’We know most Australians do the right things. However, there are some who attempt to hide their ownership interests or financial misdoings through offshore arrangements.’’
Day said that ATO would use its international information-sharing networks to investigate the links.
‘’ We are well-connected locally and globally in our efforts to fight financial crime, he said.
‘’ We will certainly look at this data set and compare it with the data. We already have to identify any potential connections’’.
Also said, ‘’ we have some of the best auditors, investigators, analysts and data scientists in the world who work together to sort the good from the bad, ensuring nonstone is left unturned.’’
He also assured that no one can cheat the system, and no one is longer safe. They must expect the ‘’serious consequences’’ for their actions.
Since 2013, Pandora papers are the biggest leaks that appears in the media. And ATO believes that they did not rely on Pandora leaks to perform their jobs.
