Dr Mamello Thinyane, a former United Nations University Institute computer science researcher, has been appointed as the first Optus Chair of Cyber Security and Data Science at the University of South Australia (UniSA).
The position is part of a co-funded partnership between Optus and UniSA aimed at enhancing research outcomes in data science and cyber security and preparing future experts in these fields.
The partnership includes a joint research and innovation fund, which supports the development of solutions and attracts talent to South Australia, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate courses for students.
The collaboration also allows for the annual funding of an Optus scholarship program to encourage enrolment in cyber security and data science related studies. Dr Thinyane’s appointment marks a significant step in strengthening collaborations and partnerships with key stakeholders to address cyber security challenges and opportunities in society.
