Nvidia company is adding a new business unit focusing on designing bespoke chips. These chips would be for cloud computing firms, and others including Advance AI processors. The company is dominating internationally for its design and supply of Artificial intelligence (AI) chips. It aims to capture a chunk of an expanding market for custom AI chips.
There are a growing number of companies that are pursuing alternatives to Nvidia company’s chips. The California based company controls almost 80% of the high-quality chip market. This has made a tremendous change in its stock market value upto 40% for this year.
Nvidia’s major customers include Open AI, creator of Chatgpt, Microsoft, Alphabet (Google) and Meta Platforms. In a fast-growing and emerging generative AI sector, chips are playing a very crucial role. Its all purpose AI processors include H100 and A100. Many of the customers use these chips. Meanwhile, tech companies are developing their own chip considering the specific needs. Having their own internal chip production reduces time to design, cost and consumption of energy.
The giant chip making company is helping other companies with the development of custom chips such as Broadcom, and Marvell technology. According to Reuter sources, they are not authorized to talk about this. Meanwhile, Nvidia officials have also met representatives from tech companies to discuss custom chips making for them including Google, OpenAI and Microsoft.
Besides production of chips, Nvidia also pursue video games telecom, and automotive customers.
