NSW DPS seeks CIO

The NSW Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) has initiated the search for a new Director of IT and Chief Information Officer (CIO) following the departure of Mike Price earlier this year.

The DPS’s recruitment advertisement outlines that the CIO will be tasked with overseeing the digital strategy, architecture, and services for the NSW Parliament. The position description further specifies that the new CIO will also assume the role of the parliament’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). In this capacity, responsibilities include developing a cybersecurity strategy, evaluating the current security posture, and working towards risk reduction.

Collaboration with the DPS’s Director of Digital Transformation, currently Danielle Schefer since December 2022, is also part of the role. The position oversees three senior managers responsible for IT services, cybersecurity, and enterprise architecture, managing a budget of approximately $5 million.

Mike Price, who served as CIO since 2017 and was also responsible for digital transformation until Schefer’s appointment, highlighted his achievements during his tenure, including technology replacement, cloud migration, and the modernization of the parliament’s audiovisual services. His professional background includes six years with the NSW Public Service Commission, five years as Head of Application Delivery for the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, and 12 years with Oracle in the UK and Australia.
