Nexperia, a chipmaker based in the Netherlands, was targeted in a cyber attack by hackers last month, according to the company owned by China. They are currently working with external experts to investigate the incident.
“In March 2024, Nexperia discovered that a third party without authorization had accessed specific Nexperia IT servers,” the company confirmed in a statement, echoing a previous report by Dutch broadcaster RTL.
“We swiftly reacted by disconnecting the impacted systems from the Internet to control the situation and put in place comprehensive mitigation measures.”
Nexperia was previously NXP’s Standard Products division before being spun off in 2016 and then acquired by Wingtech of China in 2018. It produces simple chips, transistors, and diodes.
The company announced that it had initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party professionals to establish the extent and type of the incident.
It did not mention if any damage or losses had occurred due to the hack, however, RTL reported that the hackers had released numerous confidential documents on the dark web to demand a ransom.
According to RTL, the offenders stated that they had taken numerous gigabytes of sensitive data, such as trade secrets, chip designs, and customer information from companies like Apple, Huawei, and SpaceX.
