New E-Health records platform for Australian Defence force (ADF)

A Leidos-led consortium has won a deal to deliver a new e-healthcare platform. It will be for the 80,000 personnel in the Australian Defence force. That personnel includes both deployed and unemployed in ADF. The worth of the deal is $329 million.

The system is officially familiar as the health knowledge management (HKM) solution. It works with MediRecords, Coviu and Nous Group and the assured contract will start at the end of the year.

Health Knowledge Management

The contract is announce through the federal government’s procurement website AusTender. Though, it wasn’t accompanied by any announcement from the Department of Defence. According to iTnews, the defence spokesperson said, “Defence JP2060 phase four – health knowledge management – received government second pass approval in December 2021,”

Currently, DeHs is providing single e-health records to ADF members. It will be replace by JP2060 to support the ADF’s clinical process and business. DeHs is based on EMIS clinical software. The new HKM solution will deliver an e-health record solution with the IT environment.

Applicable to both Defense’s deployed and non-deployed environments

It is applicable across both Defense’s deploy and non-deploy environments. Which include military and training operations on land, air and at sea and fixed site garrison locations.

Moreover, Leidos joined with clinical and practice management software provider MediRecords, telehealth software provider Coviu and consultancy Nous Group, all Australian companies, for the tender in September 2019.

MediRecords is projects to provide “primary and allied health care solutions”, while Coviu will bring telehealth capabilities. Nous will provide primary organisations change management to support the project.

Meanwhile, At the time of the announcement, Leidos said JP2060 phase four provided an “opportunity to apply lessons learn” from the Cerner-based MHS GENESIS e-health record and care distribution system it is delivering for the US Department of Defense.
