NBN Co has announced that it will be introducing a new network termination device (NTD) for its hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) network later this year, which will be built using a new chipset sourced from Max Linear.
The existing NTDs, made by Arris (now CommScope) and using the CM8200 chipset, will be replaced due to the end-of-life notice received by NBN Co for the existing chipset.
The new NTD will have the same features and functionality as the current one and will be available in the third quarter of this year, with the same dimensions as the existing model.
Existing customers using CM8200 NTDs are unaffected by the change. NBN Co had previously faced sourcing problems for the now end-of-life chipsets and temporarily stopped taking new orders due to the resulting component shortages.
