NBN Co is upgrading its satellite-to-fiber network

NBN Co has announced plans to upgrade 10,000 premises in isolated areas from satellite connections to fibre, according to a regulatory filing. The company intends to bring fibre network upgrades to several regional and isolated communities currently served by the satellite network. This upgrade program will enable approximately 10,000 premises in 28 communities to access higher speeds and lower latency through fibre services. NBN Co stated that the upgrades would introduce new service levels and operational targets for these areas.

In addition to the fibre upgrades, NBN Co is also converting other parts of its satellite network to fixed wireless technology. By migrating customers to more reliable access technologies, NBN Co aims to retain subscribers who had previously sought alternative services like Starlink. This transition will also free up satellite capacity, allowing NBN Co to enhance services for those who remain within the Sky Muster coverage area.
