Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella is on a visit to Southeast Asian countries. His first stop was Jakarta, where he is promoting generative Artificial Intelligence technology. The next two countries on his list are Malaysia and Thailand.
In his visit to Indonesia, he said that Microsoft’s investment will bring the latest and greatest Artificial Intelligence infrastructure to the country. He said that Microsoft is to lead the wave in terms of AI infrastructure that is needed at this time.
Nadella also met President Joko Widodo and cabinet ministers to discuss joint AI research and development. According to Communication Minister Budi Arie Setiadi, Microsoft bases its data centers on the resort island of Bali or in the capital city Nusantara, which is under construction. Nadella said that by 2025, Microsoft will train around 2.5 million people in Southeast Asia in AI, including 840,000 Indonesians.
Meanwhile, the company is expanding its reach to other countries for the development of AI globally. Recently, the company invested US$2.9 billion in cloud and infrastructure in Japan, and US$1.5 billion investment in UAE-Based AI firm. Before Nadella’s visit to Jakarta, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited the country and met the president. He said that he will look into building infrastructure facilities in Indonesia.
