Here we sit down with Lisa, to know a bit more about her journey as a mindset coach.
Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Lisa: I stumbled across NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) when I sought help to work through some challenging personal circumstances.
The experience changed my life. Where I once would react to someone or something with anger, frustration, or defensiveness, I am now unaffected by what people do or say.
I have the knowledge and skills to work through any negative emotions that come up for me and my interactions with myself and those around me are, for me, so much more positive.
I’ve always been fascinated with human behavior and why people behave the way they do, and over the years have read countless self-help and personal development books.
And since I’ve been the person who friends share their problems with and I have always wanted my own business, it felt like it was meant to be to become certified as a Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Time Line Therapy, and Hypnosis and start The Thought Edit, helping women to improve the way they view the world, one THOUGHT at a time!
Q. How did you get started?
Lisa: Slowly! After finishing my course I went on annual leave from my full-time job and saw a few clients pro bono with great results.
But the reality of returning to work, domestic duties, and life as a mum of young children left only snippets of time to get my business up and running so it took longer than I expected.
But that didn’t stop me as I’m in this for the long haul. I want to make a difference in people’s lives. I love learning and challenging myself and growing personally and all of this contributes to feeling fulfilled in my life.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?
Lisa: Three things:
- It’s so easy to stay in the preparing and planning and thinking about it phase. It’s safe there. You can’t fail. You won’t be judged. But if you’re not careful, that’s where you’ll stay. So you have to silence the thoughts keeping you there, find the courage and confidence and just START. Every successful person has been at ground zero too.
- Accepting that working ON the business takes up more time than you think – website, SEO, marketing, content creation, Canva, posting on social media – getting my head around all of the business side of the business instead of doing what I love – coaching clients – was frustrating and time consuming but it’s inevitable and essential.
- Mindset. Starting a business can be daunting for some people. You’re putting yourself out there for people to comment and judge. You could fail. You could make mistakes. You could do something stupid. And ironically, all of the skills and knowledge and techniques I learned on my course, I needed for myself to be able to get started. I already had the determination, drive, ambition and refusal-to-give-up attitude but I needed extra confidence, a tough skin and the reminder to reframe my fear of failure to finding the lesson and learning from it.
Q. What is the Most Memorable Thing You’ve Done Since you Started your Business?
Lisa: Hearing about the change for clients after a breakthrough session (typically the Time Line Therapy).
When you help the client identify the real issue for them (which is generally not the presenting problem!) and use the powerful and effective process-based technique that is Time Line Therapy, the client is able to resolve major negative emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, hurt and guilt, without the need to go too deep into the content of the problem.
When clients tell me there’s been a major “shift” for them in how they now approach circumstances, I am so genuinely excited to be a part of their journey.
Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?
Lisa: Buddhism for Mothers by Sarah Napthali.
It’s so beautifully written and there are so many ah-ha moments in it. It teaches the importance of being present in the moment for your children without anger, worry, or negative thinking getting in the way. It’s so easy to get weighed down by the overwhelm of parenting, but this book helps to shift your perspective and reminds you what true joy children bring to your life.
Q. What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools, or resources and what do you love about them?
- Google Podcasts for listening and learning whilst driving
- PocketSmith to view all banking transactions in one place when you have accounts with different banks.
- Trello – for my to do list

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?
Lisa: Our kids grow up as kind, caring, resilient, and emotionally healthy adults from intentional parenting and role modeling.
Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?
Lisa: You can do anything you want in your life – the only thing stopping you is your thoughts.
