Here we sit down with Dr. Brittany to know a bit more about her journey as a Pharmacist and Wellness Coach.

Q. Tell us a little more about your journey as an entrepreneur – how did you get started? What inspired you?

Dr. Brittany: I grew up in rural North Carolina and the value in nutrition there is not great. As a kid, I remember seeing a lot of people who had diabetes, high blood pressure, and other health conditions. I was taken aback by that even as I kid and I realized that something was not working. I didn’t know what, but I knew we were doing something wrong.

That made an impression on me and it propelled me into wanting to explore nutrition. By the time I was in high school and when it came down to deciding what to do with my life, I knew I wanted to raise a family, live a good life, and empower myself and others towards self-discovery. That’s how I decided to get a doctorate and go to pharmacy school.

When I graduated from pharmacy school, I realized there was still something missing. At that point in my life, I wasn’t taking care of my nutrition and I realized I wasn’t getting enough of it, so I decided to take a non-traditional path and focus more on nutrition and lifestyle. This made me realize that was what has been my passion all along, so I wanted to pursue it. That’s what took me down this journey of becoming a nutrition PharmD.

Q. What are your long-term goals in business? Paint a vision for the future

Dr. Britanny: My long-term goal is to empower a million people to learn how to take charge of their health and be their own doctors. A lot of people don’t have a basic understanding of dieting, lifestyle, supplementation, body mass index, and body composition. They also don’t understand their bodies and I think everyone should have a baseline education about health, lifestyle, and nutrition. My long-term goal is to provide that education.

Q. What motivates you?

Dr. Brittany: I would say that my family motivates me. I want to create a legacy that my son can be proud of. I want him to be able to say his mom was a trailblazer in the nutritional and healthcare space and she created and incorporated processes that help children and people of all ages. I also want to be a role model to people who want to make a positive difference.

Q. What business-related book has inspired you the most, or, what is your favourite book?

Dr. Brittany: A business-related book that has inspired me is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, which essentially examines the physiological power of thought. It has an emphasis on things like organized planning, decision making, persistence, and even desire. I like to incorporate these strategies in my coaching and consulting, so this book has had a huge impact on me.

Q. What strategies do you use to optimize your performance or mindset?

Dr. Brittany: The biggest strategy that I like to use to optimize my performance and my mindset is having a self-care routine. For example, every morning I make sure to meditate and move my body, whether by taking a walk or doing yoga. I also journal, which helps my flow of ideas. In short, I start my day by taking some time to myself and I make sure to keep my personal life and my work life separate.

Q. If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?

Dr. Brittany: If I were to write a book about myself, it would probably be called “Fuel Your Foundation” and it would be about understanding the basics of nutrition and lifestyle, how to take care of yourself, and how to be proactive instead of reactive when it comes to health.

Q. What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made?

Dr. Brittany: Investing in myself has been one of the best investments I’ve ever made in my life. It’s not easy to invest in yourself and do it right, but I like putting my money where my mouth is. I was my first client and I’ve applied to myself everything I now teach to other people. This has allowed me to be better at my job, so it was definitely a worthwhile investment.

Q. Where do you see the future in your niche/industry 3-5 years from now?

Dr. Brittany: I want to see more processes and protocols based on nutrition and lifestyle in the school system. I think it’s sad that we don’t receive basic education about nutrition throughout school. We eat several times a day, yet we don’t know how our bodies work or what they need unless we pursue that knowledge later in life. The sooner we have access to education around health, nutrition, and lifestyle, the better. That’s what I want to see in the future, more education at school and also at home.

Q. What is your ‘one-sentence’ piece of advice you’d like to give to someone who wants to become an entrepreneur, coach, or business owner?

Dr. Brittany: Pay attention to when your body is trying to tell you something. Our bodies are very, very intelligent. Most of the time, we write things off. If we get a cough or get sick, we just think we’ll get over it.

However, everything we feel and every symptom we experience is a sign. It’s our body’s way of telling us what we need. Hustle culture has taught us to keep going, to the point we start going against our bodies. I say the more you listen to your body, the more productive, happy,  and healthy you’ll be.
