Here we sit down with Christopher, to know a bit more about his journey as a marketing copywriter.

Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Christopher: Passion and enthusiasm to make a difference in my chosen field of marketing. I had so much creative energy and starting a business allowed me to put it to great use.

I also love the idea of building something that’s different, new and all my own.

I’m so glad I followed this aspiration, as just 4 full-time years later, I have a thriving business and a phenomenal team of 8 amazing people who help me take on the content marketing world.

Q. How did you get started?

Christopher: I founded Melotti Media years ago as a side project while I was working for a large creative agency in Sydney. However, it was only a fun project. I didn’t know what I was doing and it was just an experiment.

However, a few years later, I gained my first client while I was working as a Marketing Manager. That client was so happy with my work that they told so many others, and that gained me a huge following.

By the end of 2017, I was working all day at my job and then all night on the business, so I took the bold leap in 2018 and have never looked back.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Christopher: The rollercoaster ups and downs of running a business! It can really be tough. One moment, you’re on a high, where you’ve landed a dream client, and the next, there’s not enough work. Suddenly, you’re winning an award, and then, next, you have cash flow issues.

It’s tough. My suggestion is, get a Business Coach and make sure you look after yourself, mentally. This is how I did it, and it really helped.

Also, surround yourself with go-getters and fellow entrepreneurs. They will gladly help you, be there for you and drive you forward, even when it’s tough.

Q. What is the Most Memorable Thing You’ve Done Since you Started your Business?

Christopher: Employing my team. Everyone says that starting a business is an honour but, when you start bringing a team on board, and they share your dream and vision, it’s amazing.

I’ve found some truly great people who stand with me every day to conquer the battle and make a difference – and that’s what it’s all about.

In just four years, going from solo to a team of 8 is such an incredible achievement. I’m super proud of this.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Christopher: Well, I’d love to say mine!!! Which is relevant: It’s currently being published. It’s called “The 20 Insights into Effective Entrepreneurship” and is all about my journey over the last few years of starting a business. It covers the 20 tips I’d give anyone thinking of running or starting a business. #ShamelessPlug

Q. What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools, or resources and what do you love about them?

Blinkist: it allows you to listen to books that are summarised into bite-sized content. Definitely good for time-poor people who still love to read.

Trello: love love loves how easy it is to coordinate the team with a digital to-do list.

XERO: yep, a goodie here. I am not overly good with finances, but XERO makes keeping track of your business really simple and clear.

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Christopher: I want all brands to know and appreciate how important it is to get their messaging right. So many brands out there just don’t take the time or invest the money into crafting compelling core messages that truly articulate the strength of what they do.

This is such a lost opportunity to really be phenomenal.

I want businesses to know that it’s worth taking the time to get their brand’s messaging perfect – as if they do, everything else falls into place.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Christopher: Practise resilience because you’re going to need it, and remember: never lose the fun side of what want to do as, without fulfilment and enjoyment, it’s too hard of a road.
