McDonald’s restaurants have come up with a brilliant idea to being in employment.
The franchise says it will offer higher hourly wages and help with the cost of education to attract employees as Covid’s restrictions are slowing down in the US and the economy is opening up.
Struggle To Hire New Workers
McDonald’s was one of many hospitality businesses that furloughed workers during the lockdowns but now it has been difficult to hire as the United States opens up and hoes back to normalcy.
Most of its restaurants are owned by franchisees. They have decided to offer benefits in order to attract workers. However, it is going to be possible with some help from McDonald’s, which owns the brand.
Employee Value Proposition
The new program, or “Employee Value Proposition” – aimed at improving the employment and working experience at McDonald’s restaurants – is based on feedback from 5,000 existing employees and senior managers.
The Franchisees own about 93% of McDonald’s 38,000 outlets across the world. And some of those restaurant owners in the US will be exploring new benefits that include the provision of emergency child care when staff are called at the last minute.
The owners cane in terms in June to increase wages and benefits and the plan has been approved by the National Franchise Leadership Alliance (NFLA) – a branch representing thousands of American franchisees.
Individual restaurants are now welcoming this decision too. It involves the owner of one franchise in Colorado who is spending more than $100,000 on extra salaries and promotions and childcare, according to the parent company.
Increase In Hourly Wage
David Costa of the NFLA said it would help McDonald’s and its franchisees “remain the employers of their choice in this highly competitive hiring environment”.
McDonald’s had earlier said in May that it would increase wages at its company-owned restaurants to $ 15 an hour by 2024.
This was followed by intense pressure from campaign groups such as ‘Fight for 15’.
Other fast food chains in the US have notmkept quiet either. Famous brand Chipotle have introduced high wager per hour too. Meanwhile, some Burger King restaurants offer sign-up bonuses as an incentive for new employees.
Studies have proven that some people are reluctant to get back to work due to health risks, child care issues and unemployment benefits.
