John Munnelly, a partner at KPMG Australia, has been named chief digital officer. Munnelly will lead the consultancy’s technology strategy and serve on the National Executive Committee of KPMG Australia (NEC).
Munnelly, who will report directly to KPMG Australia CEO Andrew Yates, will start at the beginning of March.
This will be swiftly followed by a digital transformation effort for the company’s internal operations.
Anthony Stevens, KPMG’s previous CDO who departed in 2018 to lead the digital services unit, did not sit on the NEC or report to the CEO.
Yates described the hiring as a “significant move for our firm” that “recognises the fast rise and velocity of technological development in the market and in our own business.”
“Our clients have substantial digital challenges, and John will be responsible for ensuring we are best positioned to help them now and in the future,” he added.
Munnelly originally joined KPMG as part of the 2015 acquisition of Hands-On Systems, where he was the CEO.
In 2017, he became a KPMG partner, holding a top position in the firm’s management consulting sector.
Munnelly has also been the executive director of Wiise, a KPMG-owned enterprise resource planning (ERP) and accounting software provider, since May 2018.
