Invictus Games

The Invictus Games 2023 has officially started with a grand Opening Ceremony in Dusseldorf, Germany. The event highlights the power of sport, the resilience of veterans, and the indomitable Invictus spirit.

Team Australia comprises 31 current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel who have faced injuries, illnesses, or wounds during their military service.

The Healing Power of Sport

Matt Keogh MP, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel, expresses the government’s pride in supporting the Invictus Games. He underlines how the Games showcase the healing power of sports, demonstrating the determination of Australian veterans.

Competitors in the Invictus Games serve as inspiring role models, refusing to be defeated or defined by their conditions. They exemplify the ability to overcome challenges and succeed in sports.

The Importance of Community and Support

Minister Keogh acknowledges the crucial role played by competitors’ families and friends in supporting them on their journey to the Games. He emphasizes how veterans’ involvement in their local communities can encourage others with illnesses or disabilities.

The Invictus Games is an international, adaptive multi-sports competition encompassing various individual and team sports. These include athletics, indoor rowing, powerlifting, road cycling, sitting volleyball, table tennis, swimming, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair rugby.
