Instant payments are suspended countrywide due to the RBA breakdown

After a Reserve Bank of Australia clearing facility went down, Australia’s banks are attempting to clear a massive backlog of quick payments.

According to a tweet from the RBA, “an internal system engineering issue yesterday evening,”

It stated that “the problem has been contained.” “Impacted external services are now operating, but overnight payment processing has experienced some lag time.”

“We are collaborating with the banks to immediately eliminate the backlog.”

The Osko quick payment service, used by 85 banks, was affected.

Customers of Bendigo Bank were advised to wait for the backlog brought on by the outage to clear rather than retrying transactions.

Similar to ANZ, ANZ stated that payments affected by the outage “might take longer to clear” even while new payments made via Osko were processing normally.

According to ANZ, a customer may not learn for up to two days if a payment has cleared or needs to be resubmitted if it has failed.

The “industry-wide issue” had “delayed or halted the processing of Osko/PayID/NPP payments made by our members, and customers of other banks,” according to a statement from Police Bank.

The statement read, “Our team is striving to reduce the backlog of payments submitted during the Osko/PayID/NPP event.”
