If Your iPhone Gets Wet, Don’t Dry It in a Bag of Rice: Says Apple

iPhone

When your iPhone takes an unexpected swim, it’s natural to panic. For years, the go-to remedy has been to place the wet device in a bag of rice. The idea is that the rice will absorb moisture and save your phone. However, experts have long warned against this method, and now Apple officially advises against it as well.

Apple cautions that putting your iPhone in a bag of rice could lead to small particles of rice damaging the device. Uncooked rice absorbs water and becomes gummy, potentially sticking inside your phone. Moreover, it might attract dust, causing additional issues. In any case, rice doesn’t act quickly enough to prevent corrosion.

What precautions to take?

Apple provides clear guidance for users who encounter a “liquid detected” alert while trying to charge their phones:

1. Unplug the charging cable at both ends.

2. Gently tap the phone against your hand with the connector facing down to remove excess liquid.

3.Leave it to dry for at least half an hour.

4. If it didn’t dry, leave it for 24 hours

The last option is to visit a professional or expert repairs rather than soaking it into a bowl of rice.
