Hi-Tech Headsets: Electroencephalography and how does that reduce stress?

Electroencephalography or EEG device was used in the fields of neuroscience, medicine, and Psychology.

However, nowadays, it is widely use in human-computer interaction, gaming, simulations, and neuromarketing.

The device detects brain activity recording electrical signals. The EEG machine uses electrodes to record the brain wave patterns and send them to the computer. EEG headbands are widely popular among sportspeople.

EEG headbands are use to detect stress levels. The stressed brain gives more signals in comparison to a relaxed brain. It happens when the electrical activity increased due to stress.

It is widely consider the headbands can help users to train their brains and calm themselves in times of stress. which helps to boost their performance.

Is the device really helpful for stress Management?

Mostly, these devices are used by doctors for conditions such as strokes and epilepsy. However, talking to BBC Ms. Baumert says that she want to find out if they are beneficial for helping people to reduce stress. She tried out a headset called focus Calm for two years.

And said, ‘’ after using it myself, I was like, ‘I want to do more research on this.’’

So she did her research with Massachusetts-based BrainCo. It was paid research for few months in 2020 and again this year. She is convince that the device works well.

‘’ I got to visualize and learn how to have better control, and what training I need to do to get into a more relaxed state, while still being able to have a very high explosive power output.’’

The headband uses an artificial intelligence software algorithm to monitor 1,250 ‘’ data in points’’ in a person’s brainwave signals. It is connected to a mobile phone app which then scores them on a scale from 0 to 100, 100 being the calmest. Max Newlon of BrainCo said.

He said, ‘’ It’s a passive measure, nothing is going into your brain. We have people doing all different types of experiments, like spending time with their family … to learn about themselves and discover what puts them in that focused and calm state.’’

Experts believe that the device helps people to learn the skills to calm their brains. It is similar to physical exercise which makes the body strong.

Even UK consultant Dr. Steve Allder, a neurologist is supportive of the EEG devices, especially for athletes.
