Google- Warns Users about the compromised cloud accounts hack by cyberhackers to mine cryptocurrency. Cyberhackers are those who intentionally violate computer security for fraud, theft, and corporate espionage. Google’s Cybersecurity team issue a report regarding a mining hack. In this report, the team gives details of a mining hack that spots threats against its cloud server. These are collections of remote computing services including storage of customer’s data. Google’s Cybersecurity team also advises on how to handle them.
Furthermore, the team also identified the ‘’ threats horizon’’ report include: Russian state hackers involve in an attempt to gain user’s passwords. Also, identified the hackers to be back up by the government; North Korean hackers pose as Samsung job recruiters. They use substantial encryption in ransomware attacks.
Mining
The ‘’Mining ‘’ process requires a significant amount of computer power. It involves blockchain such as those that support cryptocurrencies are controlled and verified. According to a Google report, out of 80% of hacks of its cloud computing service, 50% are used to perform cryptocurrency mining. The report said, ‘’86% of the google cloud instances were used to perform cryptocurrency mining. Meanwhile, the majority of the software is downloaded within 22 seconds of the account being cooperated. The attackers take advantage of poor customer security.
Recommendations by Google
Google has recommended its cloud users have strong customer security. It includes two-factor identification- an extra layer of security besides password and generic user name. Google said, Russian Government-backed hacking group APT28, also known as Fancy bear, targeted almost 12000 Gmail accounts.
