Google Cloud to Offer Ampere’s Innovative Chips: A New Era in Cloud Computing

Semiconductor company Ampere Computing has announced that Google Cloud will offer its flagship chips. This collaboration is significant as major cloud computing providers like Google are among the largest purchasers of data center chips. Jeff Wittich, Ampere’s Chief Product Officer, revealed that more deals with other cloud providers are on the horizon later in the year, although he refrained from naming them at this point.

Ampere’s chips leverage technology from SoftBank Group’s Arm and feature custom-designed computing cores that differentiate them from other Arm-based chips in the market. Notably, Oracle is also a key investor in Ampere. The deal with Google Cloud marks the first instance where a cloud computing company will offer Ampere’s “AmpereOne” chips, known for their energy efficiency and comparable computing capabilities to Intel chips. This partnership positions Ampere to expand its market presence and attract a wider customer base, capitalizing on its innovative chip technology.
