Global EdTech Leader, Le Wagon, Opens Sydney Campus To Offer Computer Science “degree” in 9 weeks

From bartender to software engineer, and from chocolate engineer to data analyst, many more have transformed their careers in less than 3 months.

Sydney, June 21st 2023 Le Wagon, a French-born global EdTech leader in intensive coding and data training that is present in 45 cities worldwide, announces the opening of its new campus in Sydney starting from October 2023. This will greatly help with the talent crunch for coders and data analysts.

Mastery of code, data and new technological tools are essential skills for companies, and increasingly in demand. According to the federal government’s National Skills Commission’s (NCS) 2022 Skills Priority List, software and applications programmers are the second-most sought-after skills behind nursing. Australia faces a shortage of coding and data skills – according to ACS Australia’s Digital Pulse, 60,000 extra skilled ICT workers are needed each year.

Le Wagon will help Sydneysiders get jobs in tech without a 3+ years program. At Le Wagon France, the courses are in partnership with Google as part of their “Digital & AI bootcamp” curriculum, which offers the equivalent of a technical degree in Software Engineering or Data Analytics in 9 weeks. To this end, Le Wagon Sydney will also start teaching introductory tech courses at the University of Sydney Business School.

Romain Paillard, co-founder of Le Wagon, is delighted with this successful expansion: “We are delighted and proud of the opening of this new campus, which is a further step towards achieving our initial objective of offering comprehensive training to as many people as possible. Our aim is to enable everyone to succeed in the professions of the future. Le Wagon aims to provide individuals and companies with easy access to the skills they need, both individually and collectively, to keep pace with the profound changes taking place in our society. We look forward to working alongside our trusted partners to further enhance the technological capabilities and competitiveness of Australian startups and companies.”

Being part of Le Wagon’s programs which boast a job placement rate of 93% within 3 months, 98% within 6 months, has been transformative for many of its participants. Maite Eguren Brown was a customer service consultant at International Rail and is now a software engineer at Atlassian. Joseph Gulay was a former chocolate engineer at Mars, turned data analyst at Ernst & Young.

“I had always been attracted to tech. So I started looking for ways to accelerate my journey into the data science field, and that’s when I came across Le Wagon. When considering Le Wagon’s bootcamp, it came down to really good reviews, really good outcomes, it had everything I wanted, from a course material perspective, and being able to talk to the manager here and ask them questions. The vibe that I got from that interaction was really positive,” said Gulay.

The same goes for Julia Hanard, ex-bartender at Pearl & Co turned associate developer at REA Group.

“I was feeling like I wanted more from my career, I wanted to become a full stack developer. It looked like Le Wagon’s short and intensive program was what I needed. I read the reviews, it looked too good to be true, I tried it. I haven’t just learnt to code, I also built great connections, had fun, gained confidence and most importantly, I got my dream job. This decision changed my life.”

Training Australian students since 2018, Le Wagon intends to establish itself as a key player in the training of tomorrow’s talent in the extremely dynamic tech ecosystem of New South Wales. Due to its immersive training courses, in 2022, 4,800 students across 300 cohorts graduated from Le Wagon globally, of which there were 8 batches from its Melbourne campus.

Le Wagon’s Sydney campus, located at Tank Stream Labs in the Sydney Startup Hub, will welcome two classes of students, one taking the Web Development course and another the Data Analytics one. Le Wagon’s offer is aimed at anyone wishing to make a career change, launch a start-up, or upgrade their skills within their own company.

Along with Tank Stream Labs, Le Wagon has teamed up with Startup&Angels, two of Sydney’s largest tech-focused entrepreneur, startup and scale up communities, to deliver exciting and insightful workshops and founder events – with the first one taking place on June 29th. Thanks to this partnership, Le Wagon will also offer a first professional experience to its graduates within one of Tank Stream Labs’ fast-growing tech companies.

The first cohorts of the new Sydney campus will begin in-person training in October 2023.
