TikTok’s latest challenge, it’s not a dance or a lip sync… it is Frozen Honey. It’s simple easy, some consider it yummy.
More specifically, freezing a water bottle full of honey and then squeezing the contents out, caramelized golden bar oozes out the tip before you take massive bite.
What do TikTokers say about it?
The trend has exploded across the world, with thousands of videos having been made and uploaded daily. Over 600 million viewed the hashtag “#FrozenHoney” and more that 80 million viewed the hashtag “#FrozenHoneyChallange”.
Some people have mixed honey with corn syrup to make the honey less dense, while others have made their own concoctions of corn syrup and candy, which, when frozen, have a similar texture to the chilled honey.
It’s unclear where exactly the trend originated.
It has been a staple of YouTube channels devoted to autonomous sensory meridian response, also known as ASMR, in which content creators eat frozen honey to create sounds that some people find relaxing.
Honey itself is healthy if it is toked in small amounts, it does have proteins, amino acids, various enzymes, and small amounts of the B vitamins, vitamin C, and minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, selenium, chromium and manganese.
Part of the issue is just how much honey people are consuming.
Putting large amount, freeze it, and eating a fifth or more of a bottle can be a sugar overload and led to “I feel sick now,”, “[Be right back] gotta go get my stomach pumped,” response from some users.
“Honey is great but having it in small amounts to sweeten is really a healthy relationship with food and using it to get a lot of followers and a lot of attention and having it in excess amounts is crazy,” said Kristin Kirkpatrick, a registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic in the US.
Potential Dangers
NBC notes that about one out of every three people has dietary fructose intolerance, meaning that in large enough quantities, honey can cause cramping, bloating, and your best friend, diarrhea.
Plus, Experts said they also worried that the sticky substance could hurt people’s teeth, cause cavities and pull-out fillings.
Nevertheless, “bee” careful about eating too much honey at once. Frozen honey may seem tasty. It may be getting buzz. But don’t be one of those people who does something foolish that ends up making others go, “oh, Honey.”
