Food Safety Australia Recalls Popular Beers Sold Across Australia

A number of popular beers have been recalled due to fears they may cause illness if consumed.

On Wednesday, Food Standards Australia recalled three Ballistic Beer Co products due to concerns that secondary fermentation has occurred.

The products in question are the Hawaiian Haze Pale Ale 375mL, Hawaiian Haze IPA 375mL, and Reef Pale Ale 375mL products.

Food Standards Australia said there is a potential health risk associated with the consumption of the products, as they may contain excess alcohol and carbonation.

“This product is not safe to drink or open, and should be disposed of safely,” FSA said in a statement.

“Please contact Ballistic Beer Co. for instructions on how to safely dispose of the product and to arrange for reimbursement.”

Food Standards Australia is concerned that secondary fermentation has occurred in these products, which may make them unsafe to consume.

Secondary fermentation is a process in which yeast and bacteria continue to ferment the sugars in the beer even after the primary fermentation process is complete. This can cause the beer to become carbonated and can also lead to the formation of off-flavours.

Retailers who have been impacted include Liquorland stores in Queensland and NSW; Vintage Cellars in Victoria, NT, Tasmania, ACT, and NSW; independent liquor retailers in South Australia, NSW, Queensland, and Victoria; and First Choice, Dan Murphy’s, and BWS stores nationally.

Users are urged if they have purchased any of these beers, they should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
