Here we sit down with Shirene, to learn a bit more about her journey as a female entrepreneur.
Q. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?
Shirene: After working in Law for almost 5 years, I realised this wasn’t the career path for me. I had a passion for social media and realised that a lot of businesses struggled to utilise social media as a marketing tool. So I quit law and set to push the boundaries when it came to social media!
Q. HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Shirene: ‘The Socialite Marketing’ began as a small idea that was a long term goal, I started an Instagram page and posted about my services and within the first month I had 10 clients and The Socialite Marketing has been unstoppable since.
Q. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST STARTUP CHALLENGE? WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO OVERCOME IT? WHAT DID YOU LEARN?
Shirene: Going through a complete career change was definitely a challenge. It can be difficult at times to know your potential and to also convince the people around you that this is a great chance for you. Once I realised the importance of believing in myself and in what I am capable of, then there was no stopping me!
Q. WHAT IS THE MOST MEMORABLE THING YOU’VE DONE SINCE YOU STARTED YOUR BUSINESS?
Shirene: Being able to help businesses go from making 0 sales per week or to having 1-2 clients to then being completely sold out or fully booked is definitely something I will hold onto forever. My business allows small businesses owners to turn their dream into their reality and that is truly special to me.
Q. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 FAVOURITE ONLINE APPS, TOOLS OR RESOURCES AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THEM?
Asana– Helps me organise my staff and my time. It allows me to plan out their weekly tasks and keep track of what they are getting done as the week goes on. Shirene
Canva– Is also a must for people who are new to social media. It is extremely easy to use and can transform an Instagram feed.
InShot– This is another favourite app! I edit almost all of my video content on this app and recommend it to everyone.
Q. IN TERMS OF LEGACY, WHAT IS THE MARK YOU’D LIKE TO LEAVE ON THE WORLD?
Shirene: My dream would be to have The Socialite Marketing a well-known marketing agency for all business owners. I would love to be able to help other women know that anything is possible, a small idea or small dream you think is either a long term goal or isn’t possible to achieve IS POSSIBLE!
Q. IN ONE SENTENCE, WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’D GIVE TO SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT ON THEIR ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY?
Shirene: Work Hard and Dream Big! Anything you dream of and work hard for is possible to achieve. Don’t let other peoples hesitation or negative thoughts stop you from achieving your dreams. If social media marketing is your dream, find a mentor and learn as much as you can from them.
