China Southern Airlines will restart direct flights from Adelaide to Guangzhou, China, starting December 12. This new route, which is available three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, represents a huge boost to South Australia’s tourism and economic sectors.. The flights will use Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft, with 798 seats added each week.
These flights will connect South Australia to major Chinese cities. For example, Shenzhen and Macau. Both cities are popular tourist and business destinations. The airline once flew this route but discontinued operations in 2020 due to the pandemic.
The South Australian government predicts that this restart will bring in more than $69 million per year. Meanwhile, create more than 250 tourism-related employment. China’s tourism market in South Australia is rapidly growing, with visitors contributing $145 million to the local economy by March 2024, an increase of 131% compared to the previous year.
This restart of flights will assist not only the tourism industry, but will also create new airfreight customers for South Australian agriculture. The direct connection will also allow China Southern Airlines to provide local cuisine on its in-flight menu.
