The mystery surrounding the fate of the BTC billionaire Mircea Popescu is growing bigger and bigger amid reports that he has drowned off the coast of Costa Rica.
It was widely reported that the controversial investor-has now died and now it has led to lots of speculation about what would happen to his bitcoin fortune which is estimated at more than $US2 billion ($A2. 7 billion.)
How Did He Die?
According to the website, Teletica, the 41-year-old Romanian Popescu drowned after swimming at 8: 30 a.m in Playa Hermosa, which is well known as a surfing spot, due to its massive crashing waves.
Popescu is best known for his blog posts on bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies on various platforms and channels.
Yet his judgments and words were often terms as fascist, racist, xenophobic, and sexist.
What Happens To His Bitcoin?
He was considered by many to be one of the largest individual owners of bitcoin. Major news portals estimate his wealth in total to be more than £1.4 Billion.
But unconfirmed rumors have been circulating online, claiming that his family not be able to access the bitcoin address where he stated that he kept the millions of bitcoins.
If the billionaire did not put in place proper arrangements so someone else would get access to his wallets after his death, these coins will be lost forever.
One Of Bitcoin’s Greatest Philosophers
This death comes after the death of software mogul John McAfee, who was found dead last week in the city of Barcelona.
Research Analyst at Crypto Briefing Alexander Mardar said: “It looks like that with the deaths of Mircea Popescu and John McAfee a significant amount of $BTC might be lost forever.”
Following reports of his death, Mr Rizzo tweeted: “Mircea will endure as one of bitcoin’s most vilified figures and inarguably one of its greatest philosophers.”
