The Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre (CISC) sees 47 cyber incidents in the first nine months of the new mandatory reporting regime. The data indicates an increase in cyberattack and also increase in reporting compliance. The CISC can collect valuable information about the nature and scope of these attacks. True understanding of the nature of successful cyber incidents
Hamish Hansford,inaugural head of the Australian Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre (CISC) told senate estimates on Monday that the center had been ready to start receiving reports under the mandatory scheme from April 1 last year.
Under the new mandatory reporting regime in Australia, critical infrastructure providers must report any cyber incidents with a significant impact. It rated as either ‘critical’ or ‘relevant’, to the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC). The ACSC then passes on the report to the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre (CISC) for management . Also, protection of critical infrastructure.
Hansford said.“The portal for mandatory cyber incident reporting is hosted by the ACSC within the Australian Signals Directorate. As part of that process, people can tick the fact that they’re reporting for their regulatory compliance requirement. That is transfer to the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre in Home Affairs,”
During the period of April 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, a total of 47 mandatory cyber incident reports have been provided to both the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC). The Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre (CISC) that meet the criteria of a significant impact on critical infrastructure. These reports help to provide a better understanding of the nature of successful cyber incidents occurring on critical infrastructure.
