Christine Holgate receives a $1 million payout from Australia Post

The former Chief Executive of Australian Post, Christine Holgate takes a million-dollar payout as a termination payment. Australia post also will give $100,000 towards legal cost during a settlement after the Cartier Watch controversy. Australian post express regrets for the circumstances but make no admission of liability.

Why Holgate was terminated?


The controversy began on October 22, 2020, when Holgate had to face allegations from the Senate hearing within the parliament house about Four Cartier watches been given to Senior Executives at the Australian post as a souvenir for his or her work. She received political backlash over her decision to gift senior managers Cartier watches worth $20,000. “There were a tiny low number of senior those that had put an inordinate amount of labor in and that they did receive a present from the chair [and] myself on behalf of the board,” Holgate said. “They were Cartier watches of a few value of $3,000 each.”

Government Action against Christine Holgate


Scott Morrison instructed to require immediate action against Christine Holgate, and investigate the full situation. Morrison also insisted that Holgate must step aside during the investigation. He said, ‘’ if she doesn’t wish to try and do that, she can go.’’
During investigations, Holgate claimed that she has not used taxpayer’s money to shop for the Cartier watches, neither she was among the recipients. Though, the purchases were organized through her office.‘’ i’ve got not used Taxpayer’s money, she said.‘’ we don’t receive government funding. We are an advertisement organization… it had been a recommendation from our chair that these people get rewarded.’’ Holgate has joined the Australian post back in 2017 replacing former CEO Ahmed Fahour.

Investigation Report


The investigation report concluded ‘’ “No definitive finding will be made during this regard,” It showed that the board had not approved the acquisition of the Cartier watches.
It also reported that it had been inconsistent with obligations imposed by the general public governance, performance and accountability act 2013 on the board in relevance to the employment of public resources. However, Holgate said that she was bullied out of the duty.
“I was humiliated and driven to despair. i used to be thrown under the bus that the chairman of Australia Post could suck up along with his political masters.”
Additionally, she was deliberately isolated and silenced and was unable to defend herself.

Australia Post said it acknowledges that it’s lost a good CEO following the controversy of twenty-two October 2020. ‘’Australia Post regrets the difficult circumstances surrounding MS Holgate’s departure from her role as CEO.” Australia Post added that it “wishes MS Holgate the simplest in her future endeavors”. New Chief Executive Paul Gram replaced Christine Holgate and began working with Australia post.
