Chrissy Burns has been named the chief information officer of UNSW. Burns joins UNSW after working for the University of Technology Sydney for ten years in a variety of capacities, mostly as its CIO. She also worked for Ashurst Law for a while.
She will answer to Andrew Walters, vice-president of operations at UNSW.
Previously, Jeff Peers, who has been UNSW’s chief technology and infrastructure officer since 2020, oversaw the university’s technological operations.
Peers still works for the university but now oversees estate management as the chief property officer.
Burns stated on LinkedIn, “It is incredibly fulfilling to contribute to an organisation known for offering top-notch education and research that has a global influence and is tackling some of society’s biggest concerns.
“When it comes to digital, UNSW is at a turning point.
The demand for digital has expanded dramatically in the past two years, as has awareness of the opportunities that technology presents.
In order to provide the finest on-campus and hybrid experiences based on the needs of the students, it contains updated teaching and learning systems and technologies.
With the vice-chancellor of UNSW and the university council’s backing, there is also a “major” cyber security programme in the works.
Last but not least, she concluded, “Integration is at the core of our future, and we are driving changes in that area also so we can give the best end-to-end experiences possible.”
According to Burns, UNSW IT’s “skilled and energetic IT workforce” is something she is “looking forward to continuing to strengthen.”
“There are currently six IT-related jobs that are up for grabs, and there are eight more.”
According to her, these positions span the fields of leadership, cyber security, and student experience.
