According to US media reports, Britney Spears’s father has agreed to step down after 13 years of conservatorship. The singer’s career has been in the hands of the legal guardian since 2008.
The renowned singer later sought to remove his father from the role, and also to charge him with ‘’ conservatorship abuse’’. She received a huge amount of support from all over the world for making this decision.
WHY BRITNEY WAS UNDER CONSERVATORSHIP?
In 2008, the singer Jamie Spears was granted the conservatorship after Britney was reported as struggling with mental health issues. She was hospitalized. To revive her career, and to reunited with her children, her father petitioned the court for emergency ‘’ temporary conservatorship’’.
Though the court granted Jamie to put spears under conservatorship, however, recently, she opened about conservatorship and the abuse she faced. She wanted to end this, and also put her career on hold until her father is removed from conservatorship.
Over the years under conservatorship, she being manipulated by powerful men and a strong sense of self-ownership always emerged from her performances. This is what she said in the court during the hearing,
“Somebody’s done a good job at exploiting my life,” she said, adding, “I feel like it should be an open-court hearing—they should listen and hear what I have to say.”
She added, “Ma’am, my dad, and anyone involved in this conservatorship, and my management, who played a huge role in punishing me when I said no—Ma’am, they should be in jail.”
She also said, I just want to be happy. I want to have a family. I want my kids to stay with me every day.’
CURRENT DECISION OF CONSERVATORSHIP
Britney spears’ father Jamie spears are willing to step down from his role as conservator, however, the legal team said, ‘’ when the time is right’’. The team added,
“Mr. Spears is willing to step down when the time is right, but the transition needs to be orderly and includes a resolution of matters pending before the Court,”
The filing was a response to Britney’s lawyer, who requested the Los Angeles judge to remove his father from the role. According to the source, the judge denied this request. However, Jamie’s legal team says that they want to help to ensure a smooth transition for the upcoming person who controls conservatorship.
“There is no doubt that the Conservatorship saved Ms. Spears from disaster, supported her when she needed it the most, protected her and her reputation from harm, and facilitated the restoration of her career,” the filing said.
In response to the filing Britney’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart added,
“We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed,” Rosengart said. “It is vindication for Britney. We are disappointed, however, by their ongoing shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms. Spears and others.”
